Warin Kelly, working in Glass

I am self taught as a Glass Artist, having become inspired in the early 1980s by the work of contemporary German and American Glass Artists in modern buildings, which naturally related to my background as an Architect. I was a member of the 1989 and 1990 Master classes at the Architectural Glass Department, Swansea College of Art, under Johannes Schreiter and Jochem Poensgen respectively. Subsequently I attended courses there on Glass fusing with Detlef Tanz, and Glass Painting with Jonathan Cooke. My first glass commission was carried out in 1984, this has been followed by a number of Public and Private Commissions over the years using traditional leaded construction and the intrinsic qualities of a wide variety of handmade glass. This work with all its individual content, constraints, and challenges is what I enjoy most. The setting and the qualities of light, colour, and texture, are most important to me. I also construct Exhibition panels using a variety of experimental techniques.
