Shirley Kirkcaldy, working in Painting, Mixed-media, Textiles

Living on Dartmoor and surrounded by the coastlines of the SW peninsular, the land and sea are constant elements in my work. From sketches made on site I develop large and small-scale paintings and drawings in the studio, often taking the work back out into the landscape to reconnect to my initial response. Constantly exploring new ways of representing my ideas satisfies my want for making and discovering and reflects my love of painting. I exhibit regularly throughout the Southwest and held a successful solo London exhibition in 2016, which I plan to repeat in 2018. I completed a year-long Defining Practice course at Newlyn Art School in 2016 and am now looking forward to starting a BA at PCAD in Drawing, Painting & Printmaking in 2017 as a mature student after many years as a self-developed artist.
