Lyn Edwards, working in Mixed-media, Textiles

My degree in education led me to an inspiring post developing Community Arts projects based at Battersea Arts Centre in London.  Working across two London boroughs, Lambeth and Wandsworth I ran a variety of craft workshops in venues as diverse as a Women's Refuge, holiday play schemes and the art centre itself.  I moved to Devon over 30 years ago and met a willow basket maker who inspired me to work with materials in an environment that was completely new to me and which embraced my passion for gardening and growing.  My approach had its roots in textiles, a love of colour and texture and a visit to India living and working with the village women on the Kutch in Gujharat had a strong influence on my current mixed media work.

I have taught in a variety of settings, the RHS, the National Trust, the Eden project and a wide range of community settings.  I have had a book published on basket making, have contributed to various craft books and magazines and presented a craft programme for Carlton television.  I have exhibited in galleries in the South West, but I love nothing more than sharing the creative process and techniques that others have generously shared with me.  I do not consider myself an artist but a maker who enjoys creating without boundaries.
