Jeannine Allen, working in Mixed-media, Painting

I was born in Paris in 1944 and attended art college in Montmartre. I was influenced by fine art, architecture and sculpture from an early age, and worked in the Palace of Versailles with the architect of the Batiments de France. I have been inspired by the brilliance of Provence, Italy, Australia and Morocco, and the wild beauty of the coastlines and moorland landscapes near my home in Plymouth. I love working boats, with their multi-coloured reflections and battered paintwork, and harbours, with their sense of safety and permanence. I make exploratory journeys through each picture, creating new realities. For me, art is not what you see, but what you make others see.
