Alison Freshney, working in Ceramics

I grew up on the fringes of Dartmoor in the beautiful Teign Valley. I have now settled with my family in the Tamar Valley with stunning views of Chimney Rock and it’s surrounding Devon and Cornish woodlands. My work is strongly influenced by my environment and interest in the natural world. I design and make a variety of leaf sculptures and tiles with relief designs on a variety of scales. The  porcelain tiles are mounted onto natural, hand-cut slate. I enjoy the delicacy that can be achieved with porcelain, but also love using different stonewares. A current favourite of mine at the moment is white stoneware with a stunning crackle-glaze. The beauty of it is it’s unpredictability - no two pieces are the same! Much of my porcelain work is left unglazed, with just minimal use gold and mother of pearl lustre to enhance the quality of the surface.

To see my work you can go to Wildwood Gallery, Horrabridge as well as exhibitions and events during the year. Please feel free to contact me by phone or visit my Facebook page.
